A legend at Liverpool during his times is
returning to Anfield. Yes, Sami Hyypia is returning to Liverpool. He is not
coming to play for the reds, but for playing against them. Hyypia currently manages
Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. This match will complete the pre-season preparations
of the Anfield club for the season.
Sami Hyypia joined Liverpool from Willem II in the
summer of 1999, left for Leverkusen after 10 years of successful spell at the Merseyside
in 2009. Hyypia was appointed the caretaker manager of Leverkusen in April this
year.
Liverpool supporters are sure to afford a warm
reception to one of the Reds' greatest ever signings, who made 464 appearances
after arriving in 1999.
He went on to
captain the club, score 35 goals and help re-establish Liverpool as a European
force.
Hyypia's medal
cache includes the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, two UEFA Super Cups, two FA
Cups and two League Cups.
This will be the first time these two teams are
facing each other but then Leverkusen would know a lot about Liverpool as they
are managed by one of Liverpool’s legends. Also, the Leverkusen team contain
one of those players who played for Chelsea for some part of his career, the
ex-German captain, Michael Ballack.
Some players that Liverpool will have to watch
out for will be Manuel Friedrich (the vice-captain), Simon Rolfes (Captain),
Lars Bender, Andre Schürrle, Stefan Kießling and Michael Ballack.
This match could very well be the debut match for a certain Joe Allen who was signed this week by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.
Predictions: Liverpool FC 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen
